Eye donation is a noble cause. Donating your eyes to another person can light up the life of two people. So, if we have got God's gift of Vision, why not try to pass it on to somebody who doesn't have it?
Anyone can be a donor, irrespective of age, sex, blood group or religion. People who use lenses or spectacles for short sightedness, long sightedness or even those whose eyes are operated can still donate their eyes. Poor eyesight does not come in way of eye donation.
At least two people can be benefited. Eyes of a donated person will go to two different corneal blind individuals.
It is estimated that currently there are 45 million individuals worldwide who are bilaterally blind and another 135 million that have severely impaired vision in both eyes (Source: WHO). The fact that there are 180 million people in the world today who are in some way severely visually disabled is an unacceptable problem. In a study it is estimated that nearly 4.9 million people suffer from corneal blindness and are looking for eye donations across the world and with a significant demand in India as well.
